Allegretto: Pie Franco Merlot 2007

Crafted as a food wine, the dense plum and dark berries are complemented with a nice nutty nuance. The palate has a great weight and depth - rich with currants, plum and dark berries. The finish on this wine is long, smooth and elegant while the tannins are soft, firm, and consistent.

This Merlot is from our Stag vineyard in Osoyoos and is what we call a true Merlot because it’s planted on its own rootstock (no grafting). In turn, there is a trueness and transparency in the flavour that comes from the Merlot plants in this vineyard that has not been seen elsewhere. We also believe the pure sandy soil, its own rootstock and being planted north to south allowing both sides of the plants to get perfect sun.

Pairing: This wine isn’t about power; there is a complexity in this wine that will really show when paired with soft flavourful fats like braised pork belly or slow cooked beef short ribs. Let earthy flavors like thyme, garlic and mushrooms extract some of the spice that is layered in this wine from the oak.

"...It is a dark, brooding Merlot with notes of chocolate, black cherry, tobacco and oak and with firm tannins. This could be the wine to cellar..."

Tony Aspler
Deep ruby colour with a nose of cedar and black fruits; full on the palate with a savoury taste of dark chocolate, tobacco and blackberry. Satisfying length with a dry finish.
