Leggiero, Vivace and LaStellina 2012 Release
Salve,
With spring finally upon us, we’re delighted to release our 2012 Whites and Rosato.
As in previous years, we have three perfect spring and summer sippers to offer: our Pinot Grigio Vivace, our un-oaked Chardonnay Leggiero and our Rosato LaStellina.
After three atypical vintages in a row, the 2012 growing season was a return to more normal summer growing weather in the South Okanagan Valley. After an initial scare of unusually high rainfall in late spring, the remainder of the growing season was an absolute dream come true. From mid-July until late fall we had hot days combined with cold desert nights.
Growing degree days, a measure of warmth during the growing season, were above average – and certainly much higher than 2010 or 2011. Another hallmark of this vintage was uniformly ripe and clean grapes with minimal need for sorting (quite the opposite of 2008 or 2010). The resulting wines are more fruit forward thanks to plenty of sunshine and heat units; the cool nights resulted in excellent, piercing aromatics and bright acidity in the wine.
Salute!
